Zhiji Auto Declares War on Tesla: New LS6 SUV Set to Disrupt Model Y Reign

Zhiji Auto has launched its new LS6 during the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show. With a starting pre-sale price of 229,900 yuan, the LS6 is poised to challenge Tesla’s dominant Model Y, which has long led the SUV segment.

A New Contender in the Electric SUV Arena

Zhiji Auto’s latest offering, the LS6, aims to disrupt the status quo of the electric vehicle (EV) market. The SUV is available in two versions during its pre-sale phase:

  • Lingxi Smart Driving Edition: Originally priced at 239,900 RMB (33,708 USD), now available at a pre-sale price of 229,900 RMB (32,302 USD).
  • Ultra-Performance Lingxi Smart Enjoyment Edition: Regularly priced at 309,900 RMB (43,543 USD), with a pre-sale discount reducing the price to 299,900 RMB (42,138 USD).

Li Weimeng, Chief Marketing Officer of Zhiji Auto, underscored the company’s strategic intent to rival Tesla Model Y. “The Model Y has set a high benchmark in the SUV segment.

The LS6 Takes Aim at Tesla Model Y’s Market Share

With the LS6, our objective is to offer a compelling alternative and capture significant market share,” Li stated. His comments reflect Zhiji Auto’s ambition to not only enter but also excel in the highly competitive electric SUV market.

The LS6’s competitive pricing is a strategic move aimed at attracting potential buyers from the Model Y’s extensive customer base. By offering a substantial pre-sale discount, Zhiji Auto is positioning the LS6 as a cost-effective alternative without compromising on performance or features.

The two trim levels cater to different market segments, from tech-savvy drivers seeking advanced features to those desiring high-performance capabilities.

Li Weimeng also addressed broader industry trends, comparing the evolution of intelligent electric vehicles to that of consumer electronics. “Just as smartphones have seen rapid annual updates, electric vehicles are following a similar trajectory.

We plan to introduce three to four new models each year, ensuring we stay at the forefront of innovation and maintain strong consumer engagement,” Li explained.

This forward-thinking approach aligns with the ongoing advancements in EV technology and consumer expectations for frequent upgrades.
