KTM’s upcoming models—the 990 Duke, 990 RC R, and 990 SMT—showcase the brand’s dedication to performance and innovation. The 990 Duke may see minor updates while retaining its aggressive styling and powerful engine. The 990 RC R promises high-performance with advanced aerodynamics and a track-ready option, while the 990 SMT revives the supermoto spirit with modern features and versatility.

KTM 990 Duke: A Familiar Face with Potential Enhancements

The KTM 990 Duke, a mainstay in KTM’s lineup, has recently been spotted testing alongside its siblings, the 990 RC R and 990 SMT, in Europe. While the test mule of the 990 Duke appears similar to the current model, there are speculations about potential tweaks and upgrades.

The design retains the aggressive look with vertically stacked projector LED headlights and a sharp fuel tank cover, but KTM might be testing new components for an improved ride experience.

Currently, the 990 Duke features a 947cc twin-cylinder engine delivering 121 bhp and 103 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox and bi-directional quickshifter.

The motorcycle’s Chromium-Molybdenum-Steel frame and WP Apex suspension setup offer a blend of lightweight agility and stability. Any upcoming changes are expected to enhance these features, aligning with KTM’s reputation for performance and innovation.

KTM 990 RC R: A High-Performance Sportbike

The 990 RC R, another eagerly awaited model, has also been seen undergoing testing in Europe. This sportbike is set to compete with models like the Ducati Panigale V2 and Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, aiming to carve out a niche in the high-performance category.

Inspired by the race-spec RC 8C, the 990 RC R features a layered fairing with integrated winglets for improved aerodynamics and downforce at high speeds.

Under the hood, the RC R will be powered by the 947cc LC8c parallel-twin engine, delivering up to 128 bhp and 103 Nm of torque. The prototype includes a stainless steel exhaust canister and is built on a steel trellis frame with a composite aluminum subframe.

Advanced features such as fully adjustable WP Apex suspension, Brembo Hypure calipers, and adjustable footrests are included to enhance both performance and rider customization.

The RC R will also offer a Track Edition conversion, allowing enthusiasts to tailor the bike for track use. KTM plans to release this model in Europe in 2025, adding a new contender to the middleweight sportbike segment.

KTM 990 SMT: The Return of the Supermoto

KTM is reviving the supermoto genre with the introduction of the 990 SMT. This new model combines the traditional supermoto characteristics with modern enhancements.

The SMT features long-travel suspension, road-biased tyres, and an upright riding position, making it versatile for both urban and off-road adventures. The design includes a high-mounted fairing, single LED headlight, and a bash plate, underscoring its rugged and practical nature.

Powering the 990 SMT will be the same 947cc parallel-twin engine found in the Duke and RC R, though it might be slightly detuned to suit the supermoto style.

The motorcycle is equipped with adjustable WP USD forks, a monoshock rear suspension, and a braking system featuring dual front and a single rear disc with dual-channel ABS. Advanced electronics like ride modes, traction control, switchable ABS, and a TFT display with smartphone connectivity are expected to be part of the package.
